ProHours vs Toggl Track: Which One Fits Freelancers Better?
Toggl Track is one of the most widely used time trackers on the market — simple, with desktop and mobile apps, and a genuinely useful free plan for tracking hours. But if you also need to invoice your clients from the same tool, the comparison changes.

The real difference: invoicing without leaving the free plan
Toggl Track solves one thing really well: tracking time. But its free plan explicitly doesn't include billable rates, meaning you can't generate invoice-ready reports or create invoices without upgrading to the Starter plan. For a freelancer just getting started, that's a fixed monthly cost before billing the first project.
ProHours includes invoicing, rates, and PDF/CSV report exports on the free plan, with a limit of 30 time entries a month — enough to try the full flow (track → build a time sheet → invoice) without entering a card.
When Toggl Track makes more sense
- You need 100+ pre-built integrations (Toggl has a more mature ecosystem here).
- Your team is 5 people or fewer and you don't need to invoice from the same app — you'll keep using another tool for that.
- You already have a separate invoicing workflow (QuickBooks, etc.) and just want the timer.
When ProHours makes more sense
- You invoice your clients directly and don't want to pay for a second tool just for that.
- You work with client/project budgets you need to control in real time (buckets).
- You have recurring work (retainers, weekly meetings) that you currently log by hand every time.
